1996 Championship Tribute
The Cats' Pause

In 1996, the Kentucky Wildcats won their 6th NCAA National Championship.  The Championship was the culmination of the restoration of the UK program to National Prominence by the Rick Pitino led Wildcats that saw an Elite 8 [19a92], Final Four [1993], Elite 8 [1995], this Championship, followed by a National Runner-up [1997] and the 7th Championship [1998].  With this Championship, Coach Pitino became the third UK Coach to bring the big NCAA hardware home to Lexington.
