Rupp told the hiring committe he should be hired because he was "the best damn coach in the country". Carey Spicer made All America. Ellis Johnson scored the first two points under Rupp with a fast break pass from Spicer. They players loved the new found oppurtunity to play at a faster pace with more freedom.
