UK was led by All American center Bob Brannum who would transfer in later years as UK's wealth of talent banished him to the bench. In the NIT consolation game, Oklahoma A@M 7' center Bob Kurland held Brannum scoreless by staying near the basket and batting Brannum's shots away. Goaltending was legal then. Brannum was forced to feed teammates.
Utah won the NCAA Tournament this season after UK had eliminated them in the first round of the NIT.
