Alex Groza had set an Ohio high school scoring record and had hoped to go to Ohio State where brother Lou had been a football star. Instead Alex became a 3 time All American at UK. Partly because of the uncertainty of the war, UK was the only college to make Alex an offer and that was only after a tryout. UK was 11-0 when Alex left for the army.
