The closest game in the SEC Tournament was a 23 point rout over LSU. UK chose the NIT over the NCAA this season. At that time, the NCAA and NIT were equals. Wah Wah Jones (got the nickname because his baby sister couldn't say Wallace) had set a national high school scoring record of 2398 points at Harlan Ky. Jones also played football at UK and Rupp would bring him along slowly in the beginning each year. Often the football players and student section would chant, "We want Wah Wah!" All American Jack Parkinson was the leading scorer.
