Rupp had thought this would be his best team ever. 6'4" Cliff Hagan played center in place of Spivey who still would've had another year of eligibility. Frank Ramsey was also on that team Both are now NBA Hall of Famers. UK was still rated #1 in the final poll, but lost in the regional finals to a St John's team they had beaten by 41 in the regular season. Talking to reporters about the gambling scandals, Rupp said, "The gamblers couldn't touch my boys with a 10 foot poll." Beard, Groza, Walt Hirsch, and Jim Line were all implicated in the scandal. Spivey was aquited by a New York jury of perjury charges re the fixed games. Later he passed a lie detector test indicating he was not innvokved. 1950-51
