Concerned Fans For UK Basketball

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

On Thursday, June 8, 2006 , The Kentucky Kernel will publish a full-page advertisement calling on Athletic Director Mitch Barnhart and President Lee Todd to remove Coach Tubby Smith from Head Basketball Coaching responsibilities at the University of Kentucky

UK fans of all ages, throughout Kentucky and the United States , have come together in concern for the current condition of the UK Basketball program. This group has made private contributions to fund this ad, and have other similar ads in the planning stages because the group has concluded that the program has been in decline. The group wants to declare to President Todd and AD Barnhart that fans support the removal of Coach Smith now.

The group points to deteriorations in recruiting, player retention, style of play, and national competitiveness. These deteriorations have severely eroded the program's “Public Aura” and made the program the subject of public ridicule in the press.

Former Kentucky coach, and current Louisville coach Pitino discussed recruiting battles on Sunday, June4, 2006, and he said the new Louisville practice facility will "be a tremendous recruiting tool. And we butt heads with the ACC a lot, and Florida , schools like Texas . It's funny, you take Indiana and Kentucky , we rarely go against them in recruiting. It's a strange thing. I can't quite believe it. But we seem to go more against Florida and Texas -- and very much Villanova and Connecticut and the Big East."
