Five of the top six scorers on this team would return as the Fiddling Five. Gerry Calvert had dreamed of playing at UK and being another Ralph Beard, but UL offered a scholarship and UK didn't. In the Kentucky/Indiana high school All Star game, UL coach Peck Hickman was coach. He angered Calvert by giving him very little playing time, so when UK did offer, Calvert reneged on his scolarship to UL and came to UK. He was second leading scorer in this his senior season at 15.2 ppg.
